Too Much!
Yes, I've been through many situations where communication made it worse by talking too much. There were many times where my parents would nag me about things where I would respond in a somewhat annoyed tone saying, "Yes, I remember, you tell me this every single day". I guess it's because it is overly repetitive to that extent. I know they're just doing their duty of a parent, but it would make the conversation worse where it makes me want to act out against it sometimes- like the complete opposite.

Signs that might tell you whether communication is helpful or harmful is by figuring out the characteristics of faulty listening behaviors (Adler, 2015). Here's a list of your types of listeners that would be hurtful:
- Pseudolisteners - where they pretend they're absorbing all the information you're going them, but they're probably thinking about what to get for lunch (Adler, 2015).
- Selective listeners -where they literally listen to what they want to hear or whatever grabs their attention.
- Defensive listeners - Gets easily offended even if you compliment them on their hair.
And here's a list of listeners that are helpful:
- Understanding - Processing the information throughly
- Responding - After understanding the information that was given, the person would return with a response to the message with feedback.
Communicating only really works if people are on the same page.
