Structure
A guerrilla gardner in South Central LA by Ron Rinley provides a public communication where there are many members in the audience and how it's not that common to engage in a two-way conversation.
The audience would also give nonverbal feedback like clapping, confused faces, etc.
Rinley's introduction was a bit effective in my opinion- I liked how he brought up the idea of how drive-thru fast food restaurants are becoming more of a daily ritual and how it impacts on an individuals health drastically. It builds his credibility by how it makes the audience feel sympathetic towards that idea and how he brought up the idea of how he used to live in that area.
At first, Finley did not grab my attention right away and did not establish a clear purpose and tone for the speech. He talked about how South Central got changed to South Los Angeles and how it has liquor stores, fast foods, and empty lots. I was kind of confused at first because I didn't know what he was trying to talk about until I watched more of the TED talk.
Finley did organize his presentation by problem-solution. He started off talking about what the problem was (too many drive thrus, not enough fresh produce due to the cost and convenience) and then provided a solution by getting more lots of produce.
Rinley's conclusion is effective to a somewhat extent in my opinion. He wants to plant more lots, create jobs for the youth, produce more healthy habits among the community, and open up food places that sell healthier meals. I think that it is a good idea because he's trying to figure out ways to get the community to improve but I feel like it's not going to work out in the long run. If he plans to plant more produce within the community for people to get free produce, it might create fights among the ones who wants more than their fair share. Also, the jobs for the youth is good but I feel like they should be doing something that would benefit them in the future career(unless being involved in agriculture is what they plan to do). I also feel like even though I do not agree as much to his ideas, they are organized and memorable. They are kind of realistic and achievable ideas so I think that's why I feel that way.
very detailed. you really did a good job of analyzing the speech.
