Evaluating a persuasive speech
In my opinion, I do not think this is a good example of a persuasive presentation because it doesn't propose claims and back it up with proof. Also, it does not seem like it had changed the audience's view about a topic or change their actions. I also feel like majority of the speech is to inform of WHY people procrastinate rather than ways to slow down/stop procrastination.
The strengths that Vik Nithy provided within his speech were: describing the problem and describing the solution. Nithy did describe the problem in the beginning of his talk, which was about procrastination and how to stop it.
Nithy could've improved his speech by organizing his ideas into Monroe's motivated sequence by follow the five steps: attention, need, satisfaction, visualization, and action (Adler, 2015). By this, his speech would've been more organized and flowed from one idea to another. Another thing Nithy could've improved on would've been setting a better specific persuasive purpose. I get the point on how he wants to solve the idea of procrastination but his speech didn't influence me at all to want to stop my own procrastination.
A technique that we can learn from this speech is to establish common ground and credibility. The speaker graduated with ADHD and procrastination and that can help prove that you understand the audience who might be going through the same exact thing and it gives them a reason on why they should listen to the speaker.
